Chisel Early Access
As you can clearly see, today the site & Chisel have gone live!
However, it should also be clear that Chisel itself is still a very early product. I would consider Chisel to currently be in a very beta stage still, and v1.0 looms in the horizon… I plan on making semi-consistent updates to the project while balancing the other things in my life, so I apologize if I don’t immediately get around to bug fixes or feature updates and the like. You might be asking yourself, though, what even is necessary for a version 1.0?
Well, I’m not too sure on the answer myself either. I know I have some things I want to be completed by that point, I want Rockwall 2 to have a lot more functionality than it does as it stands right now. But I definitely do have a lot of features and things in mind that I think are necessary to reaching that ever elusive 1.0. Off the top of my head…
- More Rockwall 2 features, like I said. But more specifically things like lightmap previews, and probably more QOL tools and stuff.
- Touching up the other editors and giving them some love, namely the model editor. I want it to have more functionality
- More ease of use stuff like more constraint entities/wrappers.
- Probably a boatload of bug fixes... Because they will certainly pop up.
If I had to give an estimate as to how close 1.0 is, I’d say pretty damn close. Beyond fixing whatever issues are bound to pop up, the engine itself is basically feature complete as far as what I wanted to make with it. Over time I’ll probably still add more features, but those will likely be more for ease of use. I think as far as the actual game part of the game engine goes, it’s pretty much done. So, 1.0 is probably less than or close to a year out, which isn’t long compared to the 3 that I spent getting to this point.
Also, right now is the cheapest Chisel will EVER be! So if you’re thinking about getting access… I’d recommend you do it soon! Once the engine reaches version 1.0, the price will go from 25$ to 50$!
And remember, if you buy it at any point in development you will have access to the engine and all of the new versions for as long as I continue making them!
